Here we go. KG gets to travel to the San Fransisco Bay Area to visit his Grammy (not the award) over Spring Break. He flies out Friday night. Also due on Friday is a month's worth of homework.
Yes, I said a month. He evidently incurred this punishment handed down by a few teachers because he didn't want to go on a field trip to go bowling.
Along with this, he also has to do laundry AND clean his room.
Can he do it? Will his brain fry from all that must be done by Friday morning? I think he can do it. I have the highest confidence that KG can pull anything off that he sets his mind to.
Until next time...

Quick Update

It seems the ever-changing KG has outgrown Yu-Gi-Oh. He no longer plays in the tournaments and doesn't want the rare, collectible cards that were offered. Oh well, I'll just have to find something else to send him. I like sending KG stuff that he can use or wear or just plain have fun with.

He's older now...

Hello again, Dear Reader, and welcome back to the Chronicles.

With a little math from the intro of this blog, a person could find out how old KG is. For those that are not so inclined, I'll tell you: last month the Infamous One turned 13.

Reading back through the posts here and being able to watch with my own eyes how he's grown up, advanced in many areas and learning and growing, it boggles the mind how he's been able to do what he's done. Maybe someday he'll pick up his love for technology again. Only time will tell.

I'm sure some of you are thinking "If he's 13 now, doesn't that make him a Teen Geek?". I'll answer it this way: Until he is an adult, he (to me) will always be Kindergeek. As long as he has misadventures worthy of writing about for the world to see, KG will be KG. Teen Geek just doesn't roll off the tongue as well, ya know?

Now onto the update: KG is still maintaining very good grades, he's a rock star at playing the Violin, and he plays in the weekly Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments at the local comic book shop. Very soon he'll have a bunch of rare and possibly ultra-rare Yu-Gi-Oh cards to add to his collection, thanks to a friend of mine.

Now if only he'll get a haircut... just kidding.

Until next time,

Time to start this up again!

Good afternoon! Yes, it's been years, and I do owe you, the reader, an update.

KG lived with me for a couple of years, then decided it he should live with his mom out of state for a while, so that is now where he is. I see him about once a year, yet I talk with him just about every day.

He's been getting away from the programming side of things (too long away from it I guess), but he is into things most kids his age are into: BMX (just starting in the sport), getting good grades, Beyblade, Magic: The Gathering, video games on different consoles, movies, and playing Violin. I'm sure I'm forgetting things, I'll add them later.

All in all, he's quite active where he's at, and every time I talk with him he appears content, so I am happy, though I do wholeheartedly miss the KG side of things, the happenings that inspired this blog to begin with. Times and people change, and that is that.

I'll add more content as he tells me more of his happenings up there.

Until then, Dear Reader, stay safe and hope for his happiness. I know I do.

The Diet of a Kindergeek (revised)

Good Morning, Dear reader. Please, sit back grab some coffee, your zune, and put in your headphones. Here's KG's most recent artery-hardening adventure: A Big Mac, and double cheeseburger x 2. Then, 30 minutes later and getting ready for bed he eats a cheesestick and has a soda...anyone care to guess what happens next? You guessed it: he made himself sick with overeating which I, the ever responsible b0neZ tried to disuade him from ("Are you gonna save one of those for me?") Then, as he was getting ready for bed he was still complaining of being hungry. So he dives in the fridge and returns with a cheese stick and a can of vanilla cola. those were gone within 5 minutes.

No onto other news: I have a friend helping me locate all of the geocaches KG and I have found since, oh, about October last year. I'll be logging those. I'm expecting to have over 300 caches by the time I am done logging. Between us I think there's about 325-350 caches that need logging. So take that number and double it, and that's what I'll be typing up for both GC profiles.

KG will be testing for G.A.T.E. here soon. I know he'll ace the tests. I'm not speaking as a proud father (though I am one. Ask anyone who knows me), but from a point of first-hand knowledge. This kiddo is quick, too smart for his own good, and only wants to please everybody. With that mindset, I'm certain he'll ace whatever they put in front of him. Let's all hope for the best for him.

Until next time, Dear Reader. keep your doors tight, your windows secure, and hide your passwords. KG's on the loose.

These are actually names of programs that most people wouldn't know about, or have use for.
KG on the other hand found uses for them last night.

It all started when we were playing video games, and he started to repeatedly ask me if I could please get out my binders of software so he could look for a certain game he wanted to play. Well, not feeling in the mood to drag those things out, I decided (in what was unknown to me at the time to have createed a classic KG moment) to whip out a very small text-based game called Hacker v3.1::Cyber Warfare. He read the instructions, and dove right in. He had a couple of problems at first but it didn't take him long to get the routine down.
This resulted in him playing with simulated versions of some very powerful programs for well over an hour, when I was thinking we'd be going to bed after about 30 minutes of the game.

Wrong move.

He now has a flash drive of his own that the game is on (nothing to install, just plug and go) as well as his own notes for the game.

Well folks, Time for me to get the mini-admin to where he has to be so I can get to where I have to be for the day.

Be well, Dear Reader, and please change your passwords often.

It's time....

Good morning one and all!!

Well, for a time this blog wasn't updated and the previous post explains why.

I'm here to tell you now, KG is back living with me and even though he's been out of the "scene" for too long I'm confident it won't take long for him to be back to his old antics. He's discovered an affinity to Macs (hey, no one's perfect, and bear in mind he was away from my influence for a time), and there's bound to be new and improved adventures and tales as can only happen to/with/about him.

Check back often for updates and stories.

Welcome back to Kindergeek and the Kindergeek Chronicles, the Phoenix of the Internet.

Here's a start: 9 years old and has his own cell phone.... (check back for the rest later. ;) )

Until then, be well Dear Reader!

Goodnight One and All

It's with tears in my eyes and what feels like a huge hole in my heart that I wrtie these words, as it is time for me to end this blog.

You see, after 4 years with me, KG has decided to live with mommy for a while, and so that is what he is now doing. I fear that he will lose his KG-ness in the process too, but we shall see.

I guess there isn't much else to write about now that he is gone, so to you, my ever-faithful Reader, I ask that you keep KG in your hearts and prayers as we bid him a fond Adieu and wish him nothing but the best in his life.

Goodnight, Goodbye and take care,

KG, teeth, and The Laptop

Okay, so the teeth issue and the laptop issue are not related, but I'll cover them both here.
I know, I've been a bad blogger and should be banned from the Internet for not updateing this blog in months, but things have been quite busy here as of late.

First, the teeth issue:
Most kids his age start to lose their teeth. That's no big deal. KG, in his usual grand manner, has taken it upon himself when finding that a tooth is starting to wiggle a bit he will yank it out with his fingers after a day or so of messing with it. This has happened 6 times now in the past two months.

Now on to the stuff that isn't going to turn a stomach:
If you read the tagboard, you by now already are aware of his laptop problems. Well, that particular issue got fixed. Upon booting the thing up after replaceing said CMOS battery 4 error codes popped up.
(cue the KG theme song)
Within just a couple of hours, this brainiac of a child fixed 3 out of the 4 problems! The only reason the 4th wasn't fixed is because it required tools that he didn't have access to at that point, and to be perfectly honest I have my qualms about him disassembling that thing without my direct supervision.

So there you have it, Dear Reader, a quick update on all things KG-ish.
OH, almost forgot to mention, he's the only one in his class allowed to use a computer to do his journaling homework, and is the go-to guy for PC problems in his classroom before the teachers even call in problems to the office.

Sleep well, one and all, and root for KG as he continues on his Path of Geekness.

KG Update!!!

Hello again!

I know it's been a few months, but rest assured that KG has not been idle. He's been steadily learning new things, i.e. that it's best to wear more than just sandals, shorts and a helmet when riding down a steep gravel road (that was a bit of road rash, trust me), that his bedtime does not correlate directly with mine, and how to manually BRUTE FORCE promo codes on various children's entertainment websites.

Yes, Dear Reader, I said Brute Force. For those of you who don't know what that is, that's basically the act of guessing the password to a certain area until you get it right. Most people that do that kind of thing use programs to do the dirty work for them. KG doesn't. Let me tell you, KG is very tenacious on that. He's actually been known to get out a REAL DICTIONARY and sit there trying various words! I've had to put him on Net rationing a couple of times lest I find myself in a situation similar to the opening scene of Hackers.

Keep in mind I'm not pulling him off the net entirely, but it is a good idea for him to get outside and play with kids his own age, get some fresh air, etc. Yes, I know he's got a laptop and a wireless card, thus enableing him to sit outside and do what he does best, but that's not the point. He needs to be a kid too!

Now KG is going to be entering the 1st grade this year. This means more Comp Lab time for him, though I'm not sure how that'll work out. See, he was able to get away with so much at Kindergarten due to his advanced intelligence. This time it'll be a little harder for him to pull it off. There will be kids there who know how to use a PC and such. He'll be pulled in different directions as far as extra-curricular activities are concerned. He (shudder at the thought) might might start to lose his geekness! Can we let this happen? I think not. Maybe it's time for him to learn about rootkits...

He also promises me that he'll be more vigilant on responding to the tag board. KG really does read the posts, what I write about him, and the comments that people make, he's just shy when it comes to talking back to people on here.

One last note before I sign off for this post: Neither KG nor I attended DEFCON this year due to a lack of funds and some serious pressuring by various family members to go on vacation with them instead. He wasn't happy about it though. KG has told me that he plans to attend next year though. (Side note to those in the know: How do you think he'd make out in Ceaser's Challenge? The possibilities are there...)

Until next time, Dear Reader.

Welcome One and All!

Welcome to the neverending story that is the Kindergeek Cronicles. Just what is a Kindergeek, you may ask? Well, in this case it's a 5 year-old boy who just happened to take an interrest in C++ just about a year ago, then dropped the idea in favor of Hot Wheels only recently. He understands most Microsoft products, has a love for learning everything about operating systems and networking, is helping his 14 year-old cousin to read better, and is educating his teacher on why he thinks Linux is better than Windows ("It's better because it's more stable and secure!" his words, not mine though I agree wholeheartedly). He eschews Dr. Seuss in favor of tech manuals and "hacker" 'zines.

Is this some kind of child prodigy? Everyone he's met (my friends, various other kids and adults as well) tell me he is smart way beyond his years. In his defense, I believe that a child lives what they learn, and he's been around computers and networking equipment/tools/software/manuals since almost quite literally Day 1. So, it's understandable that he'd learn about his environment, and adapt accordingly.

Anyway, enough with my rambling. On to the Cronicles, and please remember to keep your hands and arms inside the car until the ride comes to a complete stop.
